Also – please don’t remove the “Stop” button – this is also a feature I often use. For example, I work on (and collect) a lot of icon themes – I have around 500,000 .png icon files – and if I want to do a search in Nautilus I often use the “Stop” button if the search is taking too long.

So in conclusion, I think my message is – please don’t remove any of the functionality in Nautilus! Although I do think that the interface uses space in a very inefficient way – so I agree that that part needs to be looked at

NO NO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Don’t remove the “Up” and the “location bar/button bar toggle” – these are two of the features I use most in Nautilus. If I want a simplified interface, I’ll use Thunar (which I really really don’t like). What Nautilus really needs is MORE buttons on the toolbar (or an editable toolbar) like in Dolphin and Firefox – starting with a “New Tab” button!

what i meant is, instead of putting on the left; maybe we can try putting it on the right

also instead of just removing the menu bar maybe you can try adding a button like Firefox-4.0 mockups (Page, Tools) or Google Chrome (Page, Wrench)

i was thinking why is the side bar on the right, its not used that much if used at all so maybe we can try put it on the side and see how it works

The “Up arrow” functionality can be performed by just hitting the backspace key.

In fact I’d rather have a better keyboard navigation for nautilus (I still can’t unmount removable drives without using the mouse), with proper and comfortable keybindings you can completely remove toolbars.
