We’ve just released GNOME Do 0.8, and it’s ridiculous. Please check out the release notes, and Digg it!
Read what Jason has to say about docky.
So there was a tiny ah-ha moment, and it became clear that GNOME Do already knows what applications you use most. Not only does it know what applications you use most, but it knows what music you listen to, what people you talk to, what bookmarks you use the most. Why not let GNOME Do add some of these to the Dock? Obviously we wont remove the ability to manually add and remove things from the dock (you can even manually remove these automatically found items from the dock in the same way), we just augement that with the ability to have a Dock that is more adaptive to who you are.
Alex is always entertaining. Check out Peng’s thoughts. Kalle has something to add. Mike joins the party. Cimi likes it too.
From the release notes:
With 20 new plugins, faster search, better results, animated themes, and 111 fewer bugs, your desktop’s killer app just got killer-er. Oh, and then there’s Docky, a whole new way to Do. Get it now.
20 Awesome New Plugins
Twenty amazing new plugins are included in this release: Banshee, Bibtex, Cl.ickable, Claws mail, Google search, Man pages, Opera, Ping.FM, Quote, Remember the Milk, System services, TinyUrl, Tracker search, Translate, and Zim to name a few. Plugins also install much faster now.
Faster Search, Better Results
Do’s entire codebase has been restructured, and its plugin architecture completely revamped. Memory usage is down, and searches are noticably snappier. Our relevance algorithms are also better than ever — Do will learn your habits and offer personalized search results immediately.
Newly Animated Themes
Do’s themes — Classic, Mini, Glass, and the newly added Nouveau and Docky — now offer gorgeous animations and dropshadows. Watch for falling jaws.
Docky
Docky is our attempt to make Do more discoverable and memorable. It’s the same Do you know and love, just a little friendlier.
File Previews
We’ve added preliminary support for viewing file thumbnails, so you can better recognize the images, movies, and documents you encounter in Do. If your file manager displays thumnails, Do will attempt to show them.
Improved Text Entry
With support for copy, paste, and longer lines of text, Do’s new exteneded text entry mode is perfect for composing emails and tweets. Activate text entry mode by pressing your period key.
Many Bugs Exterminated
82 core bugs and 29 plugin bugs have been meticulously tracked and squished. There’s still a lot of work to do, but Do 0.8 is one well-oiled machine.
New Plugin API
In creating a more cross-platform codebase, a wonderful, platform-agnostic pluigin API emerged. Plugins now have extensive access to notifications, logging, item representations, relevance information, threading tools, and much more.

You guys know what marketing is!
There is a build failure on the amd64 PPA (the error mentions amd64_is_imm32).
Nice job with Gnome-do. Keep up the good work. And thanks for giving the people the chance to use great technology
Awesome release, absolutely loving Docky, keep it up!
Oh man, Gnome-Do just keeps getting better… Too bad I can’t use it on 8.04… I’ll have to update my ubuntu.
I love it very much!
thanks for your work!
I have a question.
I use dockey theme, and when i add opera or sun virtualbox(or smplayer) to dock from application menu.I click them.As normal, a glow indicator will be seen under the application’s icon when I click it.But, on opera or sun virtualbox or smplayer, they cann’t work normally.why? do anyone have the same problem?
How do i uninstall it???? Can u please tell me how?
I believe docky shouldn’t be a “theme”, but still something embedded into the GNOME Do. It’s really cool to have all in once, but still some of us might wanna have these two features separated. What do you think?
I would like to talk about a contract you to make gnome-do acessible to blind people. Please contact me
thanks for this post! can I get some of your ideas for my blog? I promise not to copy word for word, only the ideas… take care!
Hey, I don’t know if this is yet implemented, but I think that gnome-do should have a refresh-database feature. Sometimes, like when you install something, gnome-do doesn’t know about the .desktop file, so I have to restart gnome-do.
What’s the story on amd64?
hey, I’ve commented in this thread:
http://blog.davebsd.com/2007/02/05/merge-k-sorted-lists-in-onlogk-time/comment-page-1/#comment-26519
could you take a look at it and check if I’m right? thanks!
In first , thx for your job . I don’t know if it’s the good place to post these request but i don’t find a link on the website to propose an idea.
I will be fine if the colored point under the icon app in the docky style were in a different color if the app are launched on the first desk or on the second desk. For example, red for an app lauched on the first desk and pourpre for an app on the second.
One more time thx for you job.
PS : Sorry for my poor English, I’am french.
Thanks for Gnome Do! With Docky, it’s close to perfection. I’d like to get completely rid of Gnome Panel, but unfortunately I don’t know how to cope with the systray. Is there a solution with Gnome Do?
